Why did we start FLHN?
The 2004 hurricane season
showed Floridians just how mean a season can be.
A single state suffering four
hurricane strikes in just one season is almost
unprecedented. So too is the scale of the effort involved in
rebuilding. Long after reporting crews from the
Weather Channel and the
other media have left, the problems and heartaches remain:
heaps of debris, broken houses, and shattered lives.
We started FLHN to help Floridians
though this kind of difficult time. To help Floridians in
every corner of the state prepare for, survive, and recover
from hurricanes.
In particular, we noticed that
information regarding the everyday necessities required to
rebuild and recover after the storm was virtually
non-existent. Questions like: Where can I buy a generator?
Has anybody got tarps? Where can I find water and ice? Gas?
Is there anyplace nearby that's got roofing materials? How
do I contact FEMA? Can anyone help me care for my family
member with special needs?
That's the main
reason FLHN exists: to give Floridians a forum to share
information with one another to make dealing with a
hurricane as painless as possible.
We're proud to
offer the only state-wide information sharing service
designed to help Floridian's in times of disaster. In our
online Hurricane Forums Floridians help
other Floridians by sharing information, sources,
experiences, and knowledge in real-time as a storm
approaches, passes, and throughout the long recovery
process.
We invite
everyone to use them.
